Πρόγραμμα εθελοντισμού μακράς διάρκειας σε σχολείο της Ουγκάντα

Το μήνυμα που ακολουθεί είναι από την κυρία Μαρίνα Σαρλη, πρόεδρο της Fair Trade Hellas.

Στις 5 Δεκεμβρίου, στο πρώτο διεθνές συνέδριο εθελοντισμού στη Βαρκελώνη, είχα τη χαρά να γνωρίσω την Λυδία, εθελόντρια από τη Ναμίμπια και συντονίστρια της οργάνωσης UGANDAVOLUNTEERS.

Χωρίς να έχουμε δημιουργήσει κάποια επίσημη συνεργασία, έχω τη χαρά να σας προωθήσω αυτή την πρόσκληση για πρόγραμμα εθελοντισμού μακράς διάρκειας σε ένα σχολείο της Ουγκάντα για 1 έως 9 εθελοντές. Η περιγραφή που μας έστειλε η Λυδία δείχνει ότι πρόκειται για μία πρόσκληση για βοήθεια και στήριξη ενός σχολείου μίας πολύ φτωχής επαρχίας της Ουγκάντα. Δυστυχώς επειδή δεν έχουμε ξανασυνεργαστεί και επισκεφτεί μία τέτοια κοινότητα, η οργάνωσή μας επιλέγει απλά να προωθήσει την πρόσκληση και αφήνει κυρίως στην δική σας ευχέρεια να επιλέξετε αν θέλετε να ζήσετε μία τέτοια εμπειρία.

Πιο κάτω επισυνάπτεται στα αγγλικά η πρόσκληση για συμμετοχή. Όποιος ενδιαφέρεται μπορεί να στείλει ένα email με τα στοιχεία του/της έως την Πέμπτη 3/2 στο marina@fairtrade.gr και με τη Φαίη από το γραφείο και τη Λυδία από την οργάνωση στην Ουγκάντα, θα προσπαθήσουμε να λύσουμε όποια απορία προκύψει.

Alpha & Omega preparatory school is looking for 1 to 9 teachers volunteers for periods from 3 to 9 months.

The project takes place in Kassanda town (mubende District), 2 hours drive from the Uganda Capital Kampala. It is a very rural area, with close access to water. The water is just a small distance from the school and pupils and teacher can go together to take a 10 litre jelican for personal use.

The school has

- a nursery sections with two streams

- a primary school with 1 class for each of the seven years

Subjects are: , maths, science, social studies, reading and writing, music dance drama, art drawing story telling physical education, games and sports foot and netball and other activities that the volunteers will be able to implement.

School equipment is very basic: there is not a lot of material so the volunteers can also contribute with idea for raising material or to implement low cost activities

The project is a deep experience in the voluntary field. Also logistic arrangements are very basic. Hosted volunteers will be hosted and they will share the accommodation: they can a room 2 or 3 people and because it is a rural area bathrooms are outside the houses and toilets . Local food will be shared and offered by the community. The village has water well so a sustainable and responsible stay is required to volunteers. Tickets have to be paid by the volunteers, since unfortunately association cannot pay ticket.

The project starts ideally on the 31st of January, when the semester starts. We are informed that local community is available to wait and postpone the project in order to find the most suitable volunteers. Applications of volunteers willing to cover all the 3 trimesters will have priority, but in any case application for only 3 months will also be taken into consideration.
